UConn Law’s Annual Earth Day Conference 2025 asks the question, “What is the future of environmental policy in a changing legal environment?” Join an array of legal, scientific, and policy experts to discuss the future of climate science, federal and state policy, and, of course, the law. Where do we go from here on a planet worth fighting for?
Our conference convenes policymakers, regulators, scientists, scholars, and activists across disciplines, across states, and across nations to chart our course forward. The panels will analyze obstacles and emphasize opportunities for action and optimism in the coming years. The Conference will feature a multi-media exhibit where students, artists, and other members of the community can share pieces that inspire them to action.

Climate change and gun policy represent two of the hardest problems that agencies and experts face. Recent Supreme Court cases, from Loper Bright to Cargill, have created doubt about the utility of agencies in dealing with challenging issues. The experts on this panel will tackle those issues.

The third panel will analyze obstacles and opportunities for the United States to support international environmental policy. Speakers will look beyond the Paris Climate Agreement to explore ways we can stay involved in environmental policy across nations.

Earth Day Clean-up!
Tuesday, April 22nd, 20254:00 PM - Simsbury Cemetery, at the intersection of High Ridge Road and Cross RoadsThis Earth Day (April 22nd) please help clean-up Simsbury Cemetery! We are a team of UConn staff + students, local elected officials, and community members who are working turn to neglected cemeteries like this one into oases of native plants that pollinators like birds, bees, and butterflies will love. We will be picking up trash and old winter leaves to prepare for planting later this spring, while learning the stories of people who are buried there. Meet us at the corner of High Ridge and Cross Roads (15-minute ride on the 331 Bus from Atlantic St. @ Veterans Park) at 4pm, ready to get dirty!

UConn Alumnus Corey Frate, who is a civil servant and LGBTQ political advocate, will talk about about queer and trans representation in local government. Corey serves as the Deputy Democratic Registrar for the Town of Darien. He also works as the Grants Coordinator for the Leonard Litz Foundation, which helps fund LGBTQ+ community centers and nonprofits in the Northeast. Corey volunteers with with his local committee for Darien Pride as well as Stamford Pride.
Come to The Space (Room 219) at 2pm on April 24th to meet Corey and learn about his work and LGBTQ+ politics in CT!
